Washington, July 15 (Petra) -- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi held talks on Tuesday afternoon in Washington with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, focusing on Jordan-U.S. relations and developments in the region.

The two ministers affirmed the depth of the Jordanian-American partnership and their shared interest in further developing cooperation across various fields.

Safadi and Rubio discussed regional developments and efforts to end escalation and restore calm in the region.

Safadi stressed the importance of adhering to the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran and reaching a comprehensive solution to the crisis that addresses the causes of the conflict, guarantees freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law, and supports lasting security and stability.

The two ministers condemned Iranian attacks against Jordan and Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

Talks also covered developments in Gaza and efforts to support the implementation of all provisions of U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan. Safadi emphasized the need to intensify efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution.

Rubio expressed appreciation for Jordan’s role in supporting regional security and stability, while Safadi thanked the United States for its continued support for Jordan.

Safadi also held meetings with members of the U.S. Congress to discuss strengthening Jordan-U.S. relations and regional issues. His meetings included Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Senator Jim Risch, Senate Democratic Leader Senator Jeanne Shaheen, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Representative Brian Mast, and Representative Gregory Meeks, the Democratic ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
